A charitable foundation · United Kingdom & South Africa
The W3 Foundation was established by Dr George Woods to create lasting opportunity through education, healthcare, humanitarian relief and employment — honouring the memory of Sophia Wood and Kevin Williams.

In memoriam
The Foundation exists in honour and memory of Sophia Wood and Kevin Williams, whose compassion, generosity and commitment to others continue to inspire our work. Their legacy lives on through practical acts of service, investment in people, and the belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to thrive.
Administered by Dr George Woods, the Foundation partners with charities, community organisations and individuals across the United Kingdom and South Africa to support education, humanitarian relief, healthcare, youth development, social enterprise and employment.
“Philanthropy is not measured solely by the value of donations, but by the lives transformed through compassion, opportunity and sustained commitment.”
— W3 Foundation, Our Legacy
Mission & vision
To empower individuals and communities through education, healthcare, humanitarian support and opportunity — enabling sustainable and lasting social impact.
A world where every person has the opportunity to flourish, regardless of circumstance.
Our values
Seven principles held in tension — each shaping how we choose, and support, every partner.
Areas of impact
Every partnership we enter falls within one of five areas, reflecting a consistent strategic focus rather than a scattered list of donations.
Bursaries, educational assistance and school partnerships that support children, students and lifelong learners.
Practical assistance to charities and communities responding to hardship, crisis and displacement.
Support for organisations improving physical and mental wellbeing across the communities we serve.
Strengthening charities and community organisations that create sustainable, local impact.
Creating pathways into meaningful employment and supporting economic opportunity.
Charitable organisations, educational programmes and humanitarian initiatives supported to date, across the UK, South Africa and neighbouring countries.
Who we support
The Foundation's work spans four consistent themes and more than thirty initiatives to date. To protect the privacy and dignity of everyone we've supported, we describe the type of support given rather than naming the individuals, families or organisations behind it.
Bursaries, school partnerships and scholarship funds widening access to education.
Frontline healthcare, cancer research and emergency humanitarian response.
Strengthening the organisations that hold communities together.
Investing in capable leadership, active citizenship and sustainable livelihoods.
Where we work
Supporting schools, hospices, humanitarian charities and civic institutions, with a particular focus on education and healthcare partnerships.
Investing in youth development, leadership programmes, employment creation and community organisations across South Africa.
Extending practical, targeted humanitarian support to neighbouring African countries and to communities affected by crisis further afield.
